اتجهت الدراسات الحديثة الي الاهتمام بدراسة البلاد الاسلامية المنحلة عن الاتحاد السوفيتي السابق ومحاولة معرفة تاريخها وبداية دخول الاسلام إليها, وكيف كان استقبال اهل هذه البلاد للإسلام ومدي استجابتها له, وكانت هذه البلاد قديما تمثل اهمية كبيرة للدولة الاسلامية, إذ إنها كانت إقليم حدود سواء مع دولة الخزر او الدولة البيزنطية؛ وبذلك يكون للإقليم أهمية كبيرة قديماً وحديثاً وعلية كان سبب إختياري لهذا الموضوع لكي اوضح حقائق التاريخ الاسلامي لدول إقليم القوقاز.
ومحاولة الربط بين تاريخ هذه المنطقة قديماً وحديثاً محاولا الخروج من هذه الدراسة بنتائج تفسر الوضع الراهن لتلك البلاد وما يدور فيها من إحداث وحروب وطبيعة العلاقة بين دول الاقليم بعضها البعض وبين الاقليم ككل وما كان يجاوره من دول قوية واثر هذه العلاقة علي سير الاحداث السياسية للإقليم محاولا في ذلك التأكد علي وحدة وترابط أحداث ونتائج تاريخ الاقليم, وبالرغم من وجود بعض الدراسات عن الاقليم قد سبقت غير انها كانت في فترة العصور الوسطي وكانت ارمينية وحدها دون التطرق الي بقية دول الاقليم.
كما انها كانت علي هيئة علاقات بين الدول الاسلامية وبيزنطة بل وتاريخ سياسي فقط دون التطرق الي النواحي الحضارية, ولقد حاولت منذ البداية ان اتوصل الي هدفين اساسين قام عليهما البحث, أولهما:- فتوح الاقليم والدور السياسي الذي قام به في تاريخ الدولة الاسلامية في الفترة موضوع البحث, ثانيهما:- تقديم الصورة الحضارية لإقليم اقتصاديا واجتماعيا, وقد حاولت اثناء عملي ان اتقصي الحقائق التااريخية متبعا في هذا كله المنهج العلمي القائم علي المقابلة بين النصوص والتحليل واستخراج النتائج.
