الإنسان الطبيعي هو الإنسان السعيد والمعافى. والاكتئاب والتعاسة هما من علامات الاضطراب (العصبي)، ولذلك فإن الأطفال هم أكثر الناس انسجاماً مع الطبيعة البشرية لأنهم مرحون، عفويو الطباع. أما الراشدون فإنهم يكتسبون مع الوقت أنواعاً من السلوك الذي يلجم التصرف، ويكبت المشاعر ويفرض على صاحبه نوعاً من الازدواجية المرهقة فيتعرض للغربة عن نفسه مما يزيد قلقه واضطرابه وشعوره بعدم الاستقرار وبصعوبة التكيف مع أنماط الحياة المتقلبة. هذا ويعتقد البعض أن السعادة تختبئ في الزواج، ويعتقد البعض الآخر العكس، والحقيقة التي يؤمن بها علم النفس هي أن الزواج لا يحل أي مشكلة جنسية أم عاطفية أم نفسية، أحياناً. فمثلاً: العاشق المحروم الذي يتزوج بمن أحب، يشعر بالسعادة ربما في الشهر الأول من الزواج، وبعد ذلك يصبح كل شيء، ويتنبأ بالنسبة إليه، وعندما يصبح الزواج روتينياً، يبدأ البحث عن السعادة خارج الإطار الأسري وتبدأ معه المشاكل والمتاعب الزوجية.
من هنا يأتي هذا الكتاب الذي يحاول المؤلف من خلاله البحث في مسائل الزواج والطلاق، وفي مسألة الحياة الزوجية وما يعتريها من مخاطر؛ لأن العلاقة الزوجية تخلق أحياناً الكثير من الإشكالات والأمراض الاجتماعية التي يصعب حلها. ولا يدّعي المؤلف الإحاطة بكل ما يكفل تحقيق ذلك، إلا أنه حاول جاهداً في هذا الكتاب إعطاء القارئ لمحة عن المؤشرات الرئيسية وذلك بالاستناد إلى بعض التجارب والأبحاث التي حصل عليها من خلال مطالعاته حول هذا الموضوع المتعلق بالواقع النفسي والاجتماعي لمستقبل العلاقة التي تسبق الزواج، وذاك الذي يواكب مرحلة الزواج للكشف عن أسباب النفور التي تؤدي إلى الأزمات والمشاكل الزوجية التي تؤدي بدورها إلى الطلاق الفعلي... بل إلى حياة مضطربة تجعل الزوجين غير قادرين على التمتع بالحياة الزوجية بمفهومها الكامل.
