نحن المخدرين، نقول كلمتنا.. نتناول العقار المخدر، ثم نقول كلمتنا، نهش به وجه المقت والغل وجهكم، ونحاسبكم. نحن "المهلوسين" الأبناء غير الشرعين لهذا الزمن، لهذا المكان نقول كلمتنا: كلمات العذاب واليأس (منكم) والتشنج. نحن المتقلصة أمعاؤنا أبداً، نرد عليكم، على البرجوازي الصغير، الموظف الخبيث المقنع بقناع الوظيفة حامل المسئولية، بينما هو يختبئ داخل درج مكتبة يأكل "مال النبي" نرد على البرجوازية المتوسطة المتربعة على عرش بعض مجلات الدولة تدافع عن قيم ثابتة تربة لاتهتز، وتسحق بحذائها ديدان الأرض: نحن ديدان الأرض، ويرشنا رجالها الجدد (مصححو المقالات في المطبعة) بالتوكسفين.
نحن جوالو الطرق العشر المعفرة، متشردو الشوارع الضيقة، جامعو القروش من عطاياكم الهزيلة نقول كلماتنا. نقولها ونحن أنصاف مجانين، أنصاف عرايا، أنصاف أفندية ومثقفين، نقول لكم كفوا عن اصطناع معركة الوهم، والهجوم المتوحش لخلق بالون الضجة المفتعلة، لا تجرونا إلى الخدعة، إلى الكذبة الوارمة: أنتم حراس البؤساء، فرسان قضية الجياع والمساكين وأبناء السبيل (فجأة وجدناكم ملائكة تعزفون لسنابل القمح الذهبية، وتغنون بأغاني الحصاد) وفجأة وجدنا أنفسنا غرباء منبوذين، خوارج مرفوضين. نحن الوهم وأنتم الحقيقة، وبقيتم منفردين بمزاميركم في الميدان، لكي تظلوا تعزفون ثم تبحثون عن محاربين، تجعلونهم أعداءً لكم... فأنتم تكتبون كل يوم وكل لحظة وتنشرون لكن لا تقولون شيئاً رغم ذلك (رد المؤلف صيحة "نحن جيل بلا أساتذة" على هجوم مجلة الثقافة الجديدة، نوفمبر 1964).
