مر وقت، ثم تعالى نقيق الضفادع، استغرب هو الأمر إذ لم يكن هناك على مدى البصر ما يدل على وجود مستنقع أو بئر مهجورة. قال صديقه وهو يحدق في الأفق: ما تسمعه ليس نقيق ضفادع، وإنما ضجيج شعراء ينشدون قصائدهم في أحد المواكب الرسمية. لقد كذب من قال أن الشعر ديوان العرب، ذلك لأني لا أعرف أمة أبعد عن الشعر راهناً من هذه الأمة البائدة. وأظن أن الأمراض الخطيرة التي أصابت لغة الضاد هي من تدبير هؤلاء الشعراء المرتزقة.. لذا لا بد من الهروب إلى العراء، بعيداً عنهم مثلما فعل أجدادنا الشعراء الصعاليك الذين كانت البرية مملكتهم، والكهوف منازلهم، واللغة سلاحهم. نهض صديقه، ومضى بإتجاه العراء بخطوات سريعة ثابتة. ظل يتبعه بنظراته إلى أن غاب وراء خط الأفق.. عندئذ استيقظ.. لأسابيع عديدة ظل يحاول فك رموز الحلم الذي رأى. وعندما عجز عن ذلك قال: "قد تكون الهجرة هي الخلاص الوحيدة للغة المهددة بالموت، ولي أنا المشلول أمام الورقة البيضاء!".
