هذا الكتاب صاغه صاحبه، المستشرق الامانى "برجشتراسر" باللغة العربية قبل خمسين سنة، حين دعى لإلقاء محاضرات فى "التطور النحوى للغة العربية"، بالجامعة المصرية القديمة، سنة 1929 م. ومنذ ذلك الترايخ، والكتاب يسد فراغاً كبيراً فى المكتبة العربية، في ميدان الدراسات اللغوية التاريخية، اللغة العربية، وإنه ليندر ان تجد مؤلفا بالعربية، فى علم اللغة وفقهها، لم يفد من هذا الكتاب القيم، على مدى نصف القرن الماضى. ولأهمية هذا الكتاب قام المحقق بدراسته فضبط فى امثلة النص وعباراته،ما يشكل او يغمض على قارئه، كما صحح كل ما وقع عليه، من خلل فيه مشيراً إلى ذلك في هوامش الكتاب. ووضع بين معقوفين كل ما زاده على النص تميزاً له عن الاصل. كل ذلك جعل هذا الكتاب يأتى في ثوب جديد، ليطلع و يستفيد منه التلاميذ والقراء على حدَ سواء.
هذا كتاب صاغه صاحبه المستشرق الألماني "برجشتراسر" باللغة العربية قبل خمسين سنة ، حسين دعى لإلقاء محاضرات في "التطور النحوي للغة العربية"، بالجامعة المصرية القديمة سنة 1929م.
ومنذ ذلك التاريخ والكتاب يسد فراغا كبيرا في المكتبة العربية في ميدان الدراسات اللغوية التاريخية للغة العربية وإنه ليندر أن تجد مؤلفا بالعربية في علم اللغة وفقهها ، لم يفد من هذا الكتاب القيم، على مدى نصف القرن الماضي.
وقد وقعت على كتابه هذا "التطور النحوي" في مكتبة معهد اللغات السامية بجامعة ميونخ في أثناء دراستي بها ، لدرجة الدكتوراه، وكانت نسخة المؤلف الذي آلت مكتبته الخاصة بعد وفاته إلى هذا المعهد الاستشراقي العريق ، اما عن اخراجه للنشر فلم يكن بالامر الهين فقد كان النص غفلا من الضبط بالشكل إلا ما ندر كما كانت تشيع فيه العبارات الركيكة والملحونة ، ويبدو في بعض أساليبه القلق والاضطراب وسقوط بعض الكلمات وبعد شئ من أمثلته عن الصواب.
وقد تداركت ذلك كله فضبطت من امثلة النص وعباراته ما يشكل أو يغمض على قارئه كما صححت كل ما وقعت عليه من خلل فيه مشيرا إلى ذلك في هوامش الكتاب وقد وضعت ما زدته لإقامة النص بين معقوقين تمييزا له عن الأصل.
