جاء دستور 1971 ونظام انقلاب مايو 1971 بمبارك رئيسًا للجمهورية عقب اغتيال السادات في أكتوبر1981 ، بالإضافة إلى دوره في حرب أكتوبر 1973 كشرعية مضافة... وعلى غرار سلفه وبعد تصريحات رفض فيها المساس بالدستور ادّعى مبارك الرغبة في الإصلاح وتعديل الدستور ليكون "دستورًا عصريًا"، وتحت ضغط القوى السياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية الجديدة التي تشكّلت في عصر الانفتاح والخصخصة، وتحت ضغوط زوجته ونجله الطامح لخلافة والده ووراثة حكم البلاد.
وعلى غرار محمد علي في معاهدة لندن 1840 حاول مبارك إبرام صفقة "دولية " تسمح بتوريث حكم مصر لنجله جمال، وعمل جاهدًا للحصول على الدعم الأمريكي للمشروع وحصل على دعم إسرائيل! مقابل استمرار سياسته في انكفاء مصر وعزلها عن محيطها العربي والإسلامي وإفقارها وتقديم التنازل تلو التنازل... هذا الكتاب قراءة في جذور هذا النظام الذي فتح السادات ومجموعة من معاونيه صفحته في مايو1971، وصولاً إلى ما وصلنا إليه، فالبعض ممن ثار وهتف "الشعب يريد إسقاط النظام "كان يعني هذا النظام الذي زرع السادات ومعاونوه بذرته في أرض مصر في ذلك التاريخ
