من المعروف أن جلّ أهل السّنّة لا يشترطون التواتر في مسائل أصول العقيدة، بل يرتضون لإثباتها الخبر الواحد الصحيح، إضافة إلى أن مسألة الإمامة عندهم من الفروع لا الأصول، ومعلوم أن مسائل الفروع لا يشترط في إثباتها التواتر، بل يكفي في ذلك الخبر الواحد الصحيح، وعليه، فيصح للشيعة - بحسب مؤلف الكتاب الأستاذ حسن عبد الله علي العجمي - الإحتجاج عليهم بطريق واحد لحديث (الغدير) أنه صحيح عندهم.
بين صحة حديث الغدير من عدم صحته يأتي كتاب "حديث الغدير فوق الشبهات" ليرد من خلاله مؤلفه العجمي على كلام إبن حجر الهيثمي حول ما أورده على ما أورده على استدلال الشيعة بحديث الغدير وتفنيداً - كما يقول - لشبهاته وإشكالاته، وقد استفاد فيه من بعض الردود مما أورده العلاّمة القاضي نور الدين التستري في كتابه "الصوارم المهرقة" من ردود على ابن حجر، مع تبسيط الرد واختصاره وصياغته بطريقة يسهلُ على القارىء المسلم فهمها دون صعوبة وعناء.
يذكر أن حديث الغدير هو النص على إمامة وولاية الإمام أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه على الأمة بعد النبي الأكرم محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأحد الأدلة التي يستند إليها الشيعة الإمامية الإثنا عشرية في إثبات إمامته وولايته رضي الله عنه ...
يتألف الكتاب من عدة محاور للنقاش والإستدلال والرد جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1- زعمه أن حديث الغدير مطعون في صحته وأنه حديث آحاد، 2- إثبات صحة حديث الغدير وتواتره، 3- ردود علماء أهل السّنة على من ضعف الحديث، 4- تصريح علماء أهل السّنة بتواتر حديث الغدير، 5- الردّ على محاولة إبن حجر تضعيف حديث الولاية وتمييع دلالته، (...) وعناوين أخرى ذات صلة.
