انتشرت السياحة الريفية والبدوية في الدول الأوروبية منها بريطانيا وفرنسا حيث يقوم أفراد الاسرة بممارسة أعمال الفلاحية وتربية الحيوانات والقيام بمشاركة القرويين نشاطاتهم اليومية، كما انتشرت السياحة الريفية والبدوية في كثير من الدول السائرة في طريق النمو لكونها تأتي برافد مباشر في اقتصاد القرية أفضل من مردود الزراعة. وبالتالي فقد أصبحت السياحة الريفية والبدوية مصدراً لتحسين دخل الفلاح بالإضافة لكونها وسيلة للتواصل بين أفراد المدن والريف. فالسياحة الريفية والبدوية نشاط متعدد المظاهر، فهي تشمل إجازات ذوى الاهتمامات الخاصة وأنشطة التجول وركوب الدراجات والسياحة الرياضية والصيد والفنادق البيئية وسياحة المزارع التى يرجع بداية نشأتها فى بريطانيا والتي قامت لها منظمات تنموية مثل مكتب إجازات المزارع وجمعية القرى الريفية لإجازات نهاية الأسبوع ووكالة التنمية الريفية، كما لسياحة المزارع فى أمريكا ترجع إلى ما تتمتع به من مقومات ترفيهية مثل مهرجانات الحصاد والأنهار والبحيرات والمنشآت الثقافية وهدوء الريف والطبيعة الخلابة، مما ساعد على تحسين الاقتصاد المتذبذب فى عدد كثير من مناطق الزراعة الأمريكية. وقد أجريت دراسة على مزارع الإجازات فى جنوب ألمانيا عام 1996 فتبين من الدراسة أن مديري المزارع يقومون بأنشطة ترفيهية ريفية كالصيد وركوب الخيل والمسابقات الرياضية.
