يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يسلط الضوء، في إطار الدور الإستعماري الثقافي الذي مارسته البعثات التعليمية والتبشيرية داخل الدول العربية والإسلامية، على علاقة بعثة اليسوعيين مع الموارنة في لبنان بشكل خاص، منذ منتصف القرن التاسع عشر، وذلك كإحدى مراكز النشاط النموذجية التي أفلحت في إنجاز وقطف ثمار ما غرسته خلال فترة طويلة من الزمن.
لذلك، تناول الفصل الأول "التبشير المسيحي بين الكنيسة وأوروبا الإستعمارية"، أما الفصل الثاني "التعليم الرسمي والأهلي"، وتناول الفصل الثالث "اليسوعيون في سوريا ولبنان" علاقاتهم مع فرنسا، أما الفصل الرابع "التعليم اليسوعي وإعداد النخبة" ففيه عرض للأسلوب اليسوعي في التربية من حيث الإهتمام بالطفولة والتركيز على دورها، والمراحل التعليمية الإبتدائية، وفي الفصل الرابع "البعثات الفرنسية والبروتستانية والبعثات الأوروبية الأخرى، عرض لأهمها.
