لم تتوقف المحاولات لإخراج هذا الديوان إلى عالم الضياء غير أن النجاح لم يحالفها، وقد حان الوقت لإخراج هذا الأثر الفنى النفيس، وتستند هذه المحاولة التى أضع ثمرتها بين يدى القارئ إلى الأسس التى أتحدث عنها فيما يلى، تقديم الديوان تاما. فلست أريد أن أختار منه شيئا دون شئ، ولست أريد أن أحذف منه شيئا لأنه ضئيل القيمة الفنية. فربما كان ما أعده ضئيلا ذا قيمة كبيرة عند غيرى ممن ينظر إلى جانب غير الذى أنظر إليه. فما تنحط قيمته الأسلوبية ربما لا تنحط قيمته النفسية، وما يهون تصويرا فرديا ربما لا يكون كذلك تصويرا اجتماعيا... الخ.
تقديم الديوان مجردا. فقد أردت -كما قلت آنفا- أن أصدر الديوان صالحا أن يستنطقه كل قارئ كما يهوى. فشعر ابن الرومى غنى، يمكن أن يخرج منه القارئ المتمعن بما يود من فهم. كذلك تقديم الديوان صحيحا. فبذلت الجهد فى ذلك، غير أن بعض المواضع بقيت مستعصية على. فتركتها كما هى، اعتقادا منى بأن هذا الاستغلاق قد يرجع إلى تحريف لم أتنبه إليه أو لم أستطع تصويبه، أو يعود إلى استخدام الشاعر ألفاظا من صنعه أو ألفاظا دارت على ألسنة العباسيين ولم تسجلها المعاجم، أو يرتد إلى حديث الشاعر عن حدث بعيد عن تصورى أو إلى فتور فى الذهن كان منى وقد يستطيع قارئ غيرى أن يصل إلى ما لم أصل إليه. ولست أشك فى وقوع ذلك، فقد كنت أعجز عن فهم البيت فى أحد الأوقات ثم يستبين لى فى جلاء فى وقت آخر، ولأصل إلى ما أردته حاولت أن أجمع كل ما عرفت من نسخ مخطوطة من ديوان الشاعر.
