فواز طرابلسي (1941- ) أستاذ جامعي ومؤرخ لبناني. كان مع أحمد بيضون ووضاح شرارة من أبرز قيادي حركة لبنان الاشتراكي التي اندمجت سنة 1970 مع منظمة الاشتراكيين اللبنانيين لتشكل منظمة العمل الشيوعي في لبنان. أصبح طرابلسي نائبا للأمين العام للمنظمة ثم أحد أبرز وجوه الحركة الوطنية اللبنانية. غادر المنظمة سنة 1984 وذهب إلى باريس لمواصلة دراسته. يحمل دكتوراه في التاريخ من جامعة باريس. شغل منصب رئيس تحرير جريدة الحرية ومجلة بيروت المساء.

بين دفتي هذا الكتاب – وهو على شكل حوار مع الكاتبة والمناضلة اليمنية بشرى المقطري – شهادتي الشخصية عن حكم اليسار في جمهورية اليمن الديمقراطية الشعبية. زرت عدن أول مرة العام 1970 وغادرتها لآخر مرة العام 1993. وبينهما زيارات متعددة بمعدل أربع أو خمس مرات في السنة خلال مسؤولياتي كعضو قيادي في منظمة العمل الشيوعي في لبنان.
في امتحان الضمير هذا أستبقي الإمتحان لا إراحة الضمير. حسبي أني عرضت افكاري وسلوكي بكل صراحة كما فكرتها وسلكتها خلال تلك السنوات ولم أعرضها كما يحلو لي أن أعيد تقديمها الآن بناء على أفكاري وممارساتي ومراجعاتي الحالية. هذا ما أفهمه من مهمة كتابة المذكرات.
