لقد إلتزم لاشين المنهج في دراستيه عن سعد زغلول: الدراسة السابقة التي أنتهت عند عام 1914 وهذه الدراسة التي تكمل الصورة حتي وفاة سعد في عام 1927، والمنهج العلمي يرتضي كشف الاخطاء لا تبريرها- وقد كان سعد أعظم من مبرريه لأنه كان يعترف بخطئه علنا حين كان الوضع يحتم عليه مكاشفة الجماهير التي وثقت فيه، ورغم هذا فإن طبيعة البحث الذي تقدمه تختلف عن طبيعة سابقه.
ففترة البحث الراهن (موضوع الرسالة التي حصل بها لاشين علي درجة الدكتوراه بمرتبة الشرف الأولي) التي وفق في عرض خطوطها العريضة دون إمعان في التفاصيل التي قد تحجب السياق العام، فإنها فترة مجد سعد ومصر معا، فقد صقلت سعداً وقفة الشعب المصري الرائعة في عام 1919، وهي الوقفة التي لم يتجاوب معها سعد وحده، بل اشترك معه فيها ملايين المصريين دون اعتبار لطبقة او جنس او دين.
فلقد فجرت ثورة 1919 المجيدة طاقات مصر في كل المجالات: في الفن والادب والمسرح والسياسة والاقتصاد وغير ذلك، وفي أعقاب الثورة عرفت مصر ألوانها من الخصوبة من الرجال قل أن نجد لها مثيلاً في تاريخ مصر ذاتها أو في تاريخ غيرها من البلاد، وأظهرت الديموقراطية الوليدة كفاءات في المجالات، برز سعد بينها جميعا كالشمس الساطعة، ولهذا يقل في هذا البحث تساؤل المؤرخ وحيرته- اذ الموضوع واضح المعلم وضوح الخط السياسي الذي سار عليه سعد في أعقاب ثورة 1919، وأن يكن المؤلف قد اجاد في التزام الخط العلمي المستند الي المادة الاصلية التي بذل جهداً كبيراً في الحصول عليها.
