وقد تناول الفصل الأول: مدخل إلى الدراسة، والفصل الثانى: التخلف العقلى - مفهومه - وفئات المعاقين عقلياً، ثم تناول الفصل الثالث: نظم التربية الخاصة للمتخلفين عقلياً متناولاً نظامى العزل والدمج وأشكال كل منهما ومدى سلبيات نظام العزل فى مقابل إيجابيات نظام الدمج، وتناول الفصل الرابع: المهارات الإجتماعية وأشكال القصور فيها. وإستراتيجيات التدريب عليها وفعالية الدمج فى تحسين المهارات الاجتماعية لدى المعاقين عقلياً، ثم جاء الفصل الخامس ليتناول الاضطرابات السلوكية، وأثر الدمج فى خفض الاضطرابات السلوكية لدى المعاقين عقلياً.. وفى الفصل السادس: عرض لخطوات وجلسات برنامج لتنمية المهارات الإجتماعية لدى المعاقين عقلياً، ثم جاء الفصلان السابع والثامن: ليعرضا لنتائج الدراسة الميدانية وفعالية البرنامج المستخدم مع أطفال معاقين وخفض الاضطرابات السلوكية لديهم. ثم خرجت الدراسة فى ضوء نتائجها بتوصيات لرجال التربية الخاصة وللأسرة والمجتمع بصفة عامة لترسى الأسس الواجب توافرها لنجاح الدمج.
