تناولت الدراسة مستقبل اليمن بعد سقوط صنعاء وعدد من مؤسسات الدولة والمحافظات بيد الحوثيين، وتتبعت مسار التطورات التي أوصلت اليمن إلى الوضع الراهن، ورصدت العوامل التي سهلت إستيلاء الحوثيين على السلطة، ومنها تشتت القوة وتمزقها بين عدد من الأطراف المتصارعة، وإنقسام مؤسسات الجيش والأمن، وإختراقها وتعدد الولاءات داخلها، والدور الذي قام به الرئيس السابق من تخذيل القبائل، ووحدات الجيش ومد الحوثيين بالمعلومات والخطط والرجال، والدور الضعيف والمشوه للرئيس هادي، والتحول العميق في الإطار الإقليمي بعد الإنقلاب على الرئيس المصري محمد مرسي، وإنكماش السياسة السعودية، وإنسحابها من اليمن لحساب النفوذ الإيراني، وإنسياق الرياض وراء سياسية الإمارات في التضييق على حزب التجمع اليمني للإصلاح والقوى التي شاركت في السلطة بعد 2011م، إلى جانب الدور الكبير الذي قامت به السياسة الأمريكية لتسهيل وتَمدُد الحوثيين، بهدف ضمان مواجهتهم لتنظيم القاعدة.
وعرضتُ العوامل الحاكمة التي على ضوئها سيتحدد مستقبل اليمن، ورسمتُ أربعة سيناريوهات لذلك، أحدها يرى بأن اليمن تتجه نحو نموذج ثبات المركزين المتنازعين، والآخر يرجح الحرب المفضية إلى التشظي، وثالث يميل إلى إمكانية بناء توافق وإن ظل مرحلياً، وسيناريو أخير يرجح أن يتكرر في عدن وبقية المحافظات ما حدث في صنعاء، بما يُمكّن الحوثيين من السيطرة على السلطة في البلاد.
