إن تحليلاً تأملياً للخطاب القرآني ينبئ عن إهتمام بالغ بالعقل، والذي يعد هبة الله عزّ وجلّ العظمى للإنسان وسر تميزه عن باقي مخلوقاته، ولعل إهتمام نفر غير قليل من علماء النفس من أصحاب التوجه في دراسات العمليات المعرفية، مكنهم من إستبصار جملة من مهارات التفكير، والتي شكلت بمجملها مناظير/ إتجاهات كان لها أتباعها من مدارس علم النفس المختلفة.
ولعل بلوغ نظريات الدماغ في الألفية الثالثة حالة من النضج، وما نشأ من حراك بحثي حول نواتج هذه النظريات، أفضى إلى التوصل إلى وظائف جانبي الدماغ، سواء أكان الجانب الأيمن Right Brain، أم الجانب الأيسر Left Brain، وبالتالي إستقصاء المهارات التي تعمر كل جانب من جانبي الدماغ، وهذا ما شكل بعداً رئيساً في هذا المؤلف، من حيث إستناده إلى أحدث نظريات الدماغ في معالجة مهارات التفكير.
كما أن إلتفات المؤلفيّن إلى أهمية إختبار حداثة وواقعة هذه المهارات في الميدان التربوي، في ثلاثة أقطار عربية، هي، المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية، والمملكة العربية السعودية، ودولة قطر، أتاحت للمؤلفين إجراء تطبيقات عملية موسعة أثرت فصول هذا المؤلف بروح الثقافة العربية بما تتضمنه من سمو وفكر عالٍ.
وبناءً على ما تقدم، اشتمل هذا الكتاب على مقدمة وتسعة فصول تناولت أهمية دمج مهارات التفكير في المحتوى الدراسي، ولقد جاء توزيع الفصول وفق ما يلي: الفصل الأول: "مقدمة إلى تعليم وتعلم التفكير"، الفصل الثاني: "مهارات التوضيح والفهم"، الفصل الثالث: "مهارات التفكير الإبداعي"، الفصل الرابع: "مهارات التفكير الناقد"، الفصل الخامس: "حل المشكلة وإتخاذ القرار"، الفصل السادس: "إستراتيجيات التعلم المستند إلى التفكير"، الفصل السابع: "التفكير ما وراء المعرفي"، الفصل الثامن: "عادات العقل"، الفصل السابع: "إتجاهات في تقييم تعلم الطلبة لمهارات التعلم المستندة إلى التفكير".
