غزو العراق واحتلاله زلزل حيوات الكثيرين من أهله، ويمكن كتابة الكثير من الروايات عمّا جرى بعد الإحتلال، من بينها حياة إباء السالم بطلة رواية دوّامة الرحيل. هي بعض من وجع العراق وخساراته، الإقتلاع القسري من الأرض والبيت والأهل، وإعادة الزرع في أراضٍ جديدة.
دوّامة الرحيل هي رواية رحيل يتكرر، ومعاناة ما تزال تتجدد، وقد تمثّل بعض الوجع العراقي في المنافي. هي قصة حب قد يبدو استشراقاً يقرب من الواقعية لما قد يحدث للعديد من الشباب الذين اقتلعوا من أرضهم، وأعيد زرعهم في أراضٍ جديدة معادية لوجودهم ومناقضٍ لقيمهم. لكن إصرار العراقي على الحياة، ورفضه الرضوخ والإنكفاء، هي أيضاً بعض من أحداث دوّامة الرحيل.
وقد حصلت هذه الرواية على جائزة كتارا للرواية العربية للعام 2015
