"مَدَّ مازنُ يديه في وضع الدعاء، لم يكن يدعو بلسانه، بل كان يُصلِّي بقلبِه، يدعو اللهَ أن تنجوَ ابنتُه، يدعوه ألَّا تغرقَ في غياهبِ هذا البحرِ اللعين، الذي قرَّرَ أن يُفسِدَ كلَّ شيءٍ فجأةً، كان يدعو اللهَ وهو مادٌّ يَدَيه لالتقاطِ ابنتِه المُعلَّقَةِ بينَ السماءِ والبحر، وما إن قذَفَتْها ريمُ عاليًا في الهواء، حتى توقفَ الزمنُ عندَ هذه اللقطة؛ أمٌّ تبكي، ترمي ابنتَها، الابنةُ مُعلَّقةٌ بينَ السماءِ والبحر، الأبُ على وجهِه كلُّ علاماتِ الرعبِ والذهول، مادًّا يديه ليلتقِطَ ابنتَه، وفي لحظةٍ من الجنون، ولحظةٍ من اللَّا وعي، يلتقطُ مازنُ عائشةَ، لترتطِمَ الصغيرة بصدرِه، ويقعَ بها داخلَ القاربِ المطَّاطيِّ، نَجَتْ عائشةُ وتنفَّسَ الجميعُ الصعداء".
