تشكل مادة هذا الكتاب القسم الثاني من كتاب البلاغة العربية في فنونها البديع والبيان، ولما كان القسم الأول قد عالج مسألة البلاغة العربية في تاريخها... فقد تركز هذا القسم وهو الثاني على موضوع البديع والبيان، فجاء الفصل الأول في فن البديع في وسائله وألوانه، مقدماً لها بلمحة في تاريخها وحديث في فن البديعيات. وطاف الثاني في أجواء أساليب البيان، في فنونه وصوره وهالاته.. مبتدئاً ذلك بحديث عن الخيال، في ماهيته وأحواله بما يحتمله بحث بلاغي.
محمد علي سلطاني: من مواليد دمشق حي الصالحية سنة 1933, بدأ حياته العلمية منذ سن الثالث بتعلم القرآن الكريم في كتاتيب الحي. وتابع مراحل التعليم المنهجي حتى نال درجة الدكتوراه في النحو من جامعة عين شمس بالقاهرة بعد حصوله على درجة الماجستير في البلاغة والنقد من الجامعة نفسها. ويدور إنتاجه العلمي في ميدان علوم اللغة العربية والقراءات من حيث صلتها بالنحو وربطها بالقرآن الكريم, وله عدد كبير من الكتب بين تأليف وتحقيق وبحوث لغوية منشورة في المجلات المتخصصة.
