يرى المؤلف أن إيران أثبتت نجاحها من خلال انتهاج سياسة براغماتية كإجراء تكتيكي تجاه جوارها الإقليمي وكانت منسجمة مع المبادىء الإقليمية، ولهذا تسعى إيران من خلال استراتيجيتها لاستعادة دورها الإقليمي كقوة فاعلة.
ينطلق المؤلف من رؤية واقعية للمشهد السياسي المعاصر ودور إيران داخله، فيرى في حركات التغيير التي طالت العديد من الدول العربية أتاح الفرصة لإيران لملئ الفراغ الناجم من تراجع بعض القوى الإقليمية في المنطقة وبما يتناسب مع موقعها الحالي "كقوة إقليمية فاعلة، فضلاً عن انعكاس وصول الرئيس روحاني وتبنيه سياسة (الإنخراط البنّاء) بدل العداء، ودعواته للإنفتاح على الغير"، ويقصد بذلك المؤلف سياسة إيران الخارجية وبراعتها في توظيف الأحداث لصالحها بالرغم من التحديات التي تواجهها في الداخل، يساعدها المحور الصيني والروسي في مواجهة المحاور الإقليمية الممانعة للدور الإيراني ...
