لعب قرامطة العراق دورا يذكر في التاريخ ، وكان نظام الألفة الذى أقاموه بسواد الكوفة مثار الأعجاب ، إذ نزل كل منهم عما يملكه للجماعة ، وأصبح ما يقدمة الفرد من خدمات للجامعة وما يبذله من نشاط في نصرة دعوتها ، هو الذي يحدد مكانته ومركزه فى المجتمع القرمطى. وهناك عدة عوامل جعلت دراسة تاريخ القرامطة من الصعوبة بمكان في مقدمتها ضياع مؤلفاتهم أن أغلب ما نقرؤه عن أخبارهم لا يمثل الا وجهة نظر اعدائهم من اهل السنة ، وهؤلاء لا يمكن الاطمئنان إلى كل ما كتبوه عنهم خاصة فيما يتصل بعقيدتهم الدينية وبعض مظاهر حياتهم الاجتماعية التى يصفونها دائما بالغلو والاباحية. وهذا الكتاب يناول الكلام عن قرامطة العراق خلال القرنين الثالث والرابع الهجريين ويتجلى لنا فيه ظهور دعوتهم بالعراق فبينت أهم العوامل التى مهدت لظهور القرامطة بسواد الكوفة وشرحت بداية عهدهم بالعرقا ، كما تحدثت عن علاقة دعوتها بالاسماعيلية وذكرت دلائل الصلة بينهما.
