هذا الكتاب شرح لمخطوط هام بعنوان "تقييد في ترجمة وأحوال الشيخ أبي الحسن علي بن عبد الله الشهير بالشاذلي" وهذا المخطوط يعود إلى عهد المرينيين وهو عصر إبن عباد الرندي، وقد ألفه عبد النور العمراني الفاسي - وكان من شيوخ إبن عباد في فاس - وهو مخطوط - على ما يذكر المحقق - موجود في مكتبة جامعة القرويين بفاس في المملكة المغربية ويدور موضوعه حول المصدر الأساسي في تاريخ الطريقة الشاذلية وهي من صلب اهتمام المتصوفين والعاملين في الدراسات الروحانية الإسلامية وبخاصة أن مؤلفه من أوائل علماء المغرب الذي كان لهم تأثير في تقدم التربية وفق منهج الطريقة الشاذلية ضمن الحلقات العلمية لفقهاء القرن الثامن عشر الهجري في عهد المرنيين بفاس، وإذا أردنا أن نفهم شيئاً عن الطريقة الشاذلية نقرأ قولاً للمؤلف الذي عُرفت الطريقة بإسمه أبو الحسن الشاذلي يخاطب فيه المؤمنين "إذا أردت أن يكون لك نصيب مما لأولياء الله تعالى فعليك برفع الدنيا جملةً إلا من يدلك على الله بإشارة صادقةٍ، وأعمال صالحةٍ لا ينقصها كتاب ولا سنّة؛ وأعرض عن الدنيا بالكلية ولا تكن ممن يعرض عنها ليعطى شيئاً على ذلك، بل كن في ذلك عبداً لله؛ أمرك أن ترفض عدوّه. فإن أتيت بهاتين الخصلتين: الإعراض عن الدين والزهد في الناس فأقم مع الله تعالى بالمراقبة، والتزم التوبة بالرعاية والإستغفار بالإنابة والخضوع للأحكام بالإستعانة ..." تفسر جميع هذه الوجوه هي من صلب تعاليم الشيخ الشاذلي التي عمل المحقق، "كنِث ل. هو نرَكمب" على ترجمتها من نص "درة السرار ولطائف المنن" لإبن الصباغ، وقابلها على استشهادات مناقب أبي الحسن الشاذلي وكتب أخرى، وعرضها في خمسة ابواب هي:
الباب الأول: في معرفة نسبه وابتداء أمره ومعرفة انتفاعه بشيخه وليّ الله أبي محمد بن مشيش.
الباب الثاني: في انتقاله إلى إفريقية وظهوره بها وما ظهر له بها من الكرامات ...
الباب الثالث: في ذكر شيء من تفسير كلامه الدال على رفيع مقامه.
في ذكر بعض الرسائل كتب بها - الشاذلي - إلى بعض أصحابه أو جاوب بها بعض الأولياء.
الباب الخامس: في أوراده وحزبه وشيء من أذكاره ودعائه.
