محمد لبيب البتنوني (و.؟ - ت. 1357 هـ = 1938م)، هو رحالة ومؤرخ مصري في عهد الخديوي عباس حلمي باشا الثاني. ومن أشهر أعماله الرحلة الحجازية.
حياته
ولد في بتانون (في محافظة المنوفية حالياً)، مصر. وتوفي في القاهرة عام 1357 هـ.

تعود أهمية هذا الكتاب إلى إنه حسبما توافر لدينا من اجتهاد أول كتاب أدب الرحلات العربية يختص بالعالم الجديد، يسبق فى ذلك كتاب الرحاله الكبير محمد ثابت الموسوم "بجولة فى ربوع الأمريكتين" ومعلوم أن الرواد الكبار فى هذا الفن وأولهم رفاعه الطهطاوى وبعده أحمد فارس الشدياق ومحمد عياد الطنطاوى وحسن توفيق العدل وشكيب أرسلان واحمد محمد حسنين باشا ثم حسين فوزى وتوفيق الحكيم وغيرهم اختصوا القاره الاوربية بغالب اهتمامهم، وإذا كانوا قد جاوزوها إلى غيرها، فلم يتطرق أى منهم إلى القارتين الأمريكتين، بذلك يعطينا محمد لبيب البتنونى فى كتاب رحلته هذا اول صورة عن الولايات المتحددة فى عينى رحاله عربى، وكانت تلك الصورة عند أهل زمانه من ابناء العروبة فى مجملها طيبه، فقد كانت تلك الدولة تمثل فى وجداناتهم دولة قامت على قيم عليا ومبادئ ومثل اخصها الحرية، وحققت عبر تاريخها القصير نجاحات غير مسبوقة، جعلتها فى الصدارة بين غيرها من الدول، والأهم أنه لم يكن لها تاريخ استعمارى تمرس به هؤلاء العرب مع غربيين آخرين إنجليز وفرنسيين واكتووا بنيرانه.
