ويشهد التعليم العالي اليوم في ظل جملة التغيرات السابقة تغيرات هائلة سواء تعلقت بالمناهج وكيفية وضعها وبناء محتواها، لتستند إلى البحث عن المعرفة وإثارة التفكير والنقد البناء لدى المتعلم، او في طرق التدريس وتنوعها وإعتمادها على التعلم الذاتي وتفريد العملية التعليمية لتتناسب مع إمكانات المتعلمين كل على حدة، أو في طبيعة الأدوار الجديدة التي يلعبها المعلم والمتعلم داخل حجرة الدراسة أو خارجها، وهي أدوار تفارق في طبيعتها طبيعة الأدوار التقليدية المعتادة.
فأصبح موضوع التمكين محط إهتمام الباحثين وذلك لترسيخ روح المشركة والتفاعل فيما بين الموظفين من خلال فرق العمل، إذ يشكل التمكين اللبنة الأساسية التي تمكن الموظف من ممارسة السلطة الكاملة وتحمل مسؤوليات وظيفته ليشكل بذلك أحد الأعمدة التي تقوم عليها إستراتيجية المنظمة لمواجهة التحديات والتطورات في بنية العمل.
وتأتي أهمية التمكين من كونه يحقق أهدافاً مؤسسية لا يمكن تحقيقها دون إشراك العاملين فيها، حيث بينت الدراسات أن المديرين الذين مهدوا الطريق لتمكين العاملين؛ والتمكين هو عبارة عن تفويض السلطة وصنع القرار إلى العاملين، والإعلان عن الرؤية المستقبلية للمنظمة.
ويشير تمكين العاملين في منظمات الأعمال إلى القوة التي يكتسب الأفراد من خلالها القدرة على التصرف، فتزيد ثقتهم بأنفسهم ويرتفع مستوى إنتمائهم وولائهم لتحمل المسؤولية.
ويركز هذا البحث على الدور الحيوي الذي يلعبه التمكين في تحسين الأداء، هل يمكن ان يحقق التمكين معدلات أداء أفضل خصوصاً في مجال الخدمات التعليم العالي بدولة الكويت والمعتمدة بصفة أساسية على التعليم الخاص.
