إن برنامج Director هو برنامج قامت بتصميمه شركة مايكروميديا Macromedia ليقوم بعمل العديد من الوظائف التي تخدم في كثير من المجالات، فهو يساعد في إنتاج الصور المتحركة والمعروفة بـ animation وكذلك في عمل برامج الوسائط المتعددة Multimedia ويمكن الاستفادة منه أيضاً في عمل الألعاب المبرمجة على الأقراص المدمجة CD وهذه كلها تفيد في مجالات الحياة المختلفة.
وقد حرصنا في هذا الكتاب على إعطاء فكرة مبسطة بقدر الإمكان عن هذه اللغة ومفهومها وطرق تعلمها، وذلك للمبتدئين في مجال البرمجة، وبعد أن تنتهي مراحل إنتاج الفيلم Movie يصبح ملف Director File جاهزاً لتحديد خيارات العرض وهي إما بتمكين المستخدم من عرض الفيلم أو لتطبيق برنامج آخر مستقل يسمى العارض Projector، ويتم توزيعه على المستخدمين.
والخيار الآخير لتوزيع فيلم المخرج Director Movie هو في إدخاله على شبكة الإنترنت بحيث يتمكن الناس من عرض الفيلم Movie ورؤيته، دون الحاجة لبرنامج Director وباستخدام ما يعرف بتقنية Shockwave، حيث يمكنهم رؤية الملف الأصلي لفيلم المخرج Original Director Movie File أو إصدار خاص منه يكون محمياً ومضغوطاً.
والعمل على برنامج Director لا يتطلب توافر الأجهزة Hardware أكثر مما يتطلبه أي برنامج آخر في مجال معالجة الرسوم والصور.
