عندما يصل الحديث إلى عظماء الصحابة، واستجلاء سيرتهم، تجد أنفسنا أمام مدرسة مثالية، غنية بالعطائين، الفكري والروحي، ومليئة بالعظات والعبر. ونلمس في سلوكهم وأفعالهم، مع أنفسهم ومحيطهم، تجسيداً كاملاً للمبدأ الذي دعوا إليه وكافحوا من أجله. كما نجد أن كلمتهم، كانت الكلمة المسؤولة، وحياتهم كانت كلها مواقف خالدة خلود الروح، وباقية بقاء الإنسان.
وفي هذا النمط النادر في الإسلام أبو ذر الغفاري الذي هو موضوع الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته، وكان المؤلف مدفوعاً إلى اختياره فعلاً أمران مهمان: الأول: ما لهذه الشخصية من الأثر الديني الكبير في الحياة الدينية والذي يتصل بحياته، ومقدمه إلى الشام، وسكناه في منطقة (جبل عامل) مدة طويلة من الزمن، أتاحت له الفرصة في نشر التشيع (لمذهب أهل البيت)، فالمشهور بين سكان هذه المنطقة أن أبا ذر هو صاحب الفضل في ذلك. الثاني: أن الذين تناولوا شخصية أبي ذر لم يعطوه القدر الكافي في الإحاطة، لذا فقد كان من المؤلف أن ألقى الضوء على هذه الشخصية التأريخية المميزة، في محاولة للكشف عن جميع جوانبها، وليلمح القارئ في صفاته هذا الصحابي، إنساناً آخر يرتفع عن عظماء الصحابة بالشجاعة، والعلم والعمل، وقوة الإرادة والزهد، والإخلاص، والصبر والتحمل.
وهذا الكتاب هو الحلقة الأولى في سلسلة للمؤلف، تتناول حياة أركان أربعة وسيرتهم وهم: أبو ذر الغفاري، وسلمان الفارسي، والمقداد بن الأسود، وعمار بن ياسر. وفي هذه السلسلة يهدف المؤلف إلى تجسيد العقيدة الإسلامية، يعرض صور للذين اعتنقوا الإسلام وهو في مهده، صور هي أقرب شيء لواقعهم بإحاطة وأمانة، وتفهم وإتقان.
