تعتبر النبوءات -وهي إخباره صلى الله عليه وسلم عما يقع قبل أن يقع- جزءاً هاماً من دلائل النبوة تتجلى في أنها تتضمن تحدياً لعقول البشر جميعاً حيث إنها من الأشياء التي لا تدرك بالعقل ولا تعرف بالنجوم وإنما تعرف بإعلام من الله العلام ووحيه.
وقد أخبر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أمته عن كل ما يحدث فعن حذيفة رضي الله عنه أنه قال: لقد خطبنا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ما ترك فيها شيئاً إلى قيام الساعة إلا ذكره علمه من علمه وجهله من جهله، وإن كنت لأرى الشيء قد نسيته فأعرفه كما يعرف الرجل الرجل إذا غاب عنه فرآه فعرفه.
أما سبحانه وتعالى فأمر بأخذ كل ما جاء به الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم والانتهاء عن كل ما نهى عنه. لذا كان للسنة النبوية مكانتها في الإسلام ومنزلتها في تشريع الأحكام، ومن الجوانب الهامة في السنة النبوية هذا الجانب الذي يكشف عنه هذا البحث القيم الذي قام به البحاثة الشيخ "محمد ولي الله عبد الرحمن المندوي" تحت عنوان "نبوءات الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ما تحقق منها وما يتحقق".
وفيه قام الباحث بجمع النبوءات والتي بلغ عددها مائة وثمان وثمانين (188) بطريقة علمية منهجية متتبعاً المصادر الأصلية والمراجع الهامة في هذا الموضوع الشيّق. وبتتبع النبوءات التي تحدث عنها نجد أن بعضها يتعلق بالصحابة رضي الله عنهم أجمعين وبعصرهم المبارك، أما البعض الآخر فيتعلق بالتابعين ومن بعدهم وبعصرهم هذا وقد أفرد الباحث باباً للنبوءات التي لم تتحقق بعد مثل النبوءة التي تتحدث عن ظهور المهدي المنتظر، وعن قتل المسلمين لليهود، عن خسف جيش البيداء إلى آخر تلك التنبوءات.
