لم تعرف أمة من الأمم هذا البؤس وذلك الشقاء الذي عرفتهما الأمة الصومالية، فمنذ أن تفتح وعي العالم على الأهمية الإستراتيجية لهذا الوطن التعيس وأصبح مطمعاً للجميع ودار حرب، ولم تكن العقود الثلاثة التي عرفت الإستقلال فيها بين عامي 1960/ 1990 تتمتع باستقرار، فقد تقلب فيها نظام سياد برى كحال أغلب الثوار من العسكريين الأفارقة بين اتجاهات شتى؛ ولأن الحاكم العسكري يأتي دائماً على دبابة باستثناءات قليلة أو نادرة فتكون قراراته وتوجهاته متخبطة. ولهذا كان هذا الكتاب الذي يمثل رحلة قام بها المؤلف للصومال راصداً الأحداث التي يمر بها القرن الإفريقي وتغيراته.
