راجعت، أوّلاً، ما بين يديّ من المؤلّفات المتعلّقة بالأرض المقدّسة وكتب التفسير، وهي ليست بالعدد اليسير، ثمّ زرت مدرسة الآثار الأمريكيّة في القدس أكثر من مرّة، وصرفت فيها الساعات الطوال في تقليب ما بين دفّات مؤلّفاتها، وهي كما يُنتظَر كثيرة؛ ونقلت من تضاعيف صفحاتها ما وجدته عن الناصرة... ثمّ أخذت أبحث في الناصرة وبين أهلها عن كلّ ما يتعلّق بها وبهم مّما يستحقّ أن يدوّن، وكاتبت كثيرين من الّذين تحقّقت أنَّهم يعرفون عنها أموراً هامّةً...
ورويت عن الشيوخ وذوي الخبرة من أهل الناصرة كثيراً من أخبارها، كنت كلّما رويت عن أحدٍ قصصته على آخرين ونقّحته ومحّصته وزدت عليه ما جدّ إلى أن صار في إعتقادي صافيّاً كاملاً، وهكذا كان دأبي في كلّ ما نقلته ورويته، فلم أكتف بالنقل، بل استعملت ما يقتضيه حكم العقل والتمحيص والإنتقاد والإستنتاج.
إنّه، وإن تكن المؤلّفات، الّتي طالعتها واستقيت منها الأخبار، تعدّ بالعشرات، وقد أشرت إليها كلّها أو جلّها في سياق التأليف - ووجدت فيها ونقلت عنها أموراً هامّةً عن الناصرة إلاّ أنّه ليس بينها إلّا القليل مّما بحثه مقصورٌ على الناصرة، وهذا القليل قليلٌ جدّاً بالنسبة إلى أهمّيّة المدينة وقداستها، ولولا ما وجدته في الناصرة نفسها، وما رويته عن أهلها مّما لم يدوّن بعد، لما كان هذا المؤلّف كما يجب أن يكون، وكما هو الآن.
