يهتم هذا الكتاب الذي أسميناه بالمقدمة في خدمة الفرد حتى يعبر عن الهدف والأسلوب والمضمون، فالمؤلف يسعى من خلاله إلى تعريف القارئ بماهية خدمة الفرد والمراحل التي مرت بها ومفاهيمها ومبادئها وأهدافها وخصائصها وعناصرها وعملياتها. أي أن هذا الكتاب يعرض الجوانب الأولى لطريقة خدمة الفرد أو الأسس لهذه الطريقة.
لذلك كان الفصل الأول يتناول المراحل التاريخية التي مرت بها خدمة الفرد وقد تم عرضها من خلال العديد من الرواية. ثم تم عرض تعاريف خدمة الفرد وخصائصها وأهدافها في الفصل الثاني. وفي الفصل الثالث تم عرض المفاهيم والمبادئ المهنية التي يلتزم بها الممارس المهني في عملة فتحدد له الطريق وترده إلى لممارسة المهنية الناجحة. وجاء الفصل الرابع يوضح المقومات الأساسية التي بدونها لا تكتمل عناصر خدمة الفرد فاحتوى على العميل والأخصائي والمشكلة والمؤسسة الاجتماعية والتدخل المهني أو عملية المساعدة. وأما الفصل الخامس فكان عبارة عن توضيح للقارئ والمبتدئ فائدة العلوم الأخرى لخدمة الفرد أي أن الفصل الخامس جاء موضحاً لعلاقة خدمة الفرد بالعلوم الأخرى. وفي الفصل السادس تم عرض أولى العمليات المهنية في خدمة الفرد وهي عملية الدراسة أو عملية جمع البيانات والمعلومات.
