لاسبيل إلى فضائله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ومزاياه، معرفة تحيط بها من كل الوجوة ولو اجتمع لذلك كل من عداه، إذ لا يعرف حقيقته ولا يحيط بفضائله عليه الصلاة والسلام إلا الله، وما زال مهرة العلماء يغوصون فى لجج بحورها الزواخر، فيستخرجون منها روائع اللآلى وبدائع الجواهر، فمنهم من اختصر فى تأليفه فأجاد، ومنهم من أطال فأطاب وأفاد، ومنهم من توسط، ومن المتوسطين الإمام العلامة الشيخ أحمد شهاب الدين القسطلانى فى كتابه المواهب اللدنية بالمنح المحمدية وهو مجلدان ضخمان سارت به الركبان، فى سائر البلدان، ولم يشتهر أجمع وأنفع منه من مؤلفات هذا الشأن، إلا أن مؤلفه رحمه الله ونفعنا به أكثر فيه من الإستطراد، ومع كثرة تداوله بين العلماء الأعلام، وظهور وجوب اختصاره لينتفع به الخاص والعام، لم أر له مختصراً، ولم أسمع له خبراً، مع اطلاعى من أسماء الكتب على مالا أكاد أحصيه، نعم رأيت بعد شروعى باختصاره فى خلاصة الأثر فى ترجمة العلامة الشيخ أحمد الوارثى أنه شرع فى اختصاره ومات قبل إكماله رحمه الله، وقد وفقنى الله وله الحمد والمنة لاختصاره بحذف ما ذكرته من المباحث الزوائد، مع استيفاء ما يتعلق بالنبى (صلى الله عليه وسلم) من الأخبار والفوائد.
