تُعد فكرة طرد الفلسطينيين من وطنهم أحد الأركان الأساسية للمشروع الصهيوني في فلسطين، فالأهداف الصهيونية من الهجرة الصهيونية إلى فلسطين، والإستيطان فيها، والإستيلاء على أرضها، وتهويدها، وصولاً لإقامة (دولة يهودية) فيها، يتطلب طرد الفلسطينيين من وطنهم، لأن وجود الشعب الفلسطيني في وطنه وعلى أرضه سيعيق تحقيق تلك الأهداف، فوجوده يتناقض تناقضاً كاملاً مع الصهيونية وأهدافها ومشروعها الإستيطاني في فلسطين، وقد اعتبرت الحركة الصهيونية وجود الشعب الفلسطيني في وطنه مشكلة، أطلقت عليها تعبير (المسألة العربية) في فلسطين، سعت لإيجاد حلٍ جذري لها، تمثل في طردهم من وطنهم.
تكمن أهمية الدراسة في: 1-التعرف على كيفية إنبثاق، وتطور فكرة طرد الشعب الفلسطيني من وطنه، ومدى مرافقتها للمشروع الصهيوني، 2-إبراز أهم الأفكار والخطط الصهيونية لطرد الفلسطينيين، ومراحل تنفيذها في حرب عام (1947- 1949م)، 3-تسد هذه الدراسة فراغاً ملحوظاً في هذا المجال.
