تشير العديد من الأبحاث في العقدين الأخيرين إلى ازدياد دائم في تدين المجتمع اليهودي في إسرائيل، وفي تعزيز الخطاب الديني والدمج بين المفاهيم والأهداف السياسية والدينية. كما نشهد أيضاً ظهور أنماط جديدة من التدين في المجتمع اليهودي الإسرائيلي.
وتتجلى إحدى صور هذا التدين في المجتمع الإسرائيلي على نحو كبير جداً وأساس ف يتعزيز شدة تأثير (المعسكر الحريدي) (ذلك "المجتمع" اليهودي المتزمت دينياً، في إسرائيل وخارجها) في عملية اتخاذ القرار السياسي بين أورقة البرلمان والحكومة الإسرائيليين.
تأتي أهمية هذا البحث من استعراضه تطور الحريدية اليهودية وكشفه مفاصل ونقاط تحول كان لها إثر بالغ في مستقبل تطور نظرتها للمشروع الصهيوني ونتائجه. كما يحاول هذا البحث التوقف عند الاعتقاد المهيمن بين الإسرائيليين، وخصوصاً بين الباحثين والمؤرخين منهم، الذي يخلص إلى أن الحريديم كانوا وما زالوا مناهضين للصهيونية ولدولة إسرائيل. يأتي هذا البحث ليكشف عن حقيقة تتلخص في أن هذا الاعتقاد الأخير غير دقيق إطلاقاً، ولا يرتكز على معطيات موضوعية وميدانية. بل إن الحريديم كانوا في العديد من المفاصل المركزية في السابق وما زالوا يعارضون الجوانب العلمانية في العقدية والنشاط الصهاينة فقط. كما يكشف هذا البحث عن التحولات في نظرة الحريديم بتياراتهم المختلفة للنشاط الصهيوني منذ بدايته ويتوقف عند أسباب هذه التحولات وشدة تأثيرها في السياسة والمجتمع الإسرائيليين. أخيراً تنبع الأهمية المركزية لهذا البحث كونه يكشف عن أهم سمات المرحلة الجديدة التي مازلنا في صلب عملية تبلورها واليت ستكون القاعدة التي سيبني عليها المجتمع الحريدي في المستقبل القريب نظرته لدولة إسرائيل ولسياساتها، والتي من دون أدنى شك سيكون لها إسقاطات كبيرة جداً على جميع الصعد السياسية منها والثقافية، وحتى القطرية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط.
