رأى طه حسين بعمق خريطة مصر، وأدرك أن فلسطين هى بوابة مصر نحو الشرق العربى، لذا تابع مبكراً ما يجرى على أرض فلسطين من ازدياد معدلات الهجرة اليهودية إليها وبروز المشروع الصهيونى، لذا راح ينبه فى مقالاته إلى خطورة ما يجرى فى فلسطين، خطورته على فبسطين وعلى مصر وعلى العرب والمسلمين جميعاً، بل وعلى الإنسانية كلها، وحين تأسست جامعة الدول العربية سنة 1944 اعتبر أن مقياس نجاح هذه الجامعة فى مقدرتها على استعادة فلسطين والمحافظة على عروبتها وعلى حقوق شعبها، شغلت الصهيونية وإسرائيل مكانا فى تفكير ووجدان طه حسين، وكان قادرا على أن يميز بين اليهودية كديانة واليهود العرب كمواطنين عرب وما تقوم به الصهيونية على أرض فلسطين من استيلاء على أراضيها وانهاك لحقوق شعبها، ولم يسامح أبدا الأمم المتحدة لأنها أتخذت قرارات ومواقف مجحفة لصالح إسرائيل ضد الفلسطينين والعرب عموما، هذا الكتاب يفتش فى أوراق طه حسين وكتاباته وأفكاره حول فلسطين والصهيونية وإسرائيل، وهى كتابات مجهولة للكثيرين مما دفع بعض خصومه إلى اتهامه بتجاهل المسألة الفلسطينية والانحياز للصهيونية خاصة وأنه أسس مجلة "الكاتب المصرى" التى كانت مملوكة لأسرة يهودية مصرية.
