فإن أهمية الإستثمار في هذا النشاط بالنسبة للدول المضيفة تتمثل في توفير تلك المشتقات وتحسين قيمته المضافة للنفط الخام من خلال تحويله إلى مشتقات نفطية قابلة للإستهلاك بالمواصفات العالمية، وتنويع مصادر الدخل القومي بدلاً من الإعتماد الكلي على بيع النفط بشكل خام (إذ نرى أن في وقتنا الحالي بعض الدول المنتجة للنفط وصلت مرحلة الوقف عن إنتاج النفط الخام وبيعه؛ بسبب ضياع الصفة التجارية فيه بعد أنه صارت تكلفة الإنتاج تساوي أو أكثر من الربح المستحق من بيعه)، وبناء بنية تحتية للبلد بواسطة التكنولوجيا المتطورة المستخدمة من خلاله، وتوفير فرص العمل، فضلاً عن تأهيل الكوادر المحلية.
