هذا الكتاب ينتمي لميدان الأدب الديني الوعظي، ولفظ الديني أعم من (لفظ الصوفي) وقد يطلق ويراد به الأدب الديني الصوفي وغير الصوفي، وقد يطلق ويراد به الأدب الديني غير الصوفي، والأدب الصوفي أدب عرفاني تفرضه الحاجة للتعبير عن معارف ومواجيد تتسامى عن العموم، وتدق عن كثير من المفهوم، وتخرج من العبارة إلى الإشارة، ومن التدبير العقلي إلى التلقي الإلهامي، وأما الأدب الديني فجهد عقلي في إيقاع الوعظ موقع القبول عند السامعين، يهدف للتأثير في السامع وحمله على فعل أمر أو أمور، وترك آخر أو أخرى.
وحقيقة هذا الكتاب وتفرده أنه يجمع هذين الاتجاهين ويمتزجان فيه، فهو إن استخدام الأكثولة وهي إلى الثاني أقرب، فقد امتلأ بتأويلات إشارية لكثير من آيات القرآن الكريم، محملاً إياها بدلالات تتجاوز المعنى الظاهر، وهذه سمة من سمات الخطاب الصوفي، كما أنه تعمق في فهم النفس وغوائلها بما يتجاوز عادة الواعظين وقدراتهم، وقد نحت الكتاب لنفسه مساراً أدبياً قصصياً متميزاً، فكل فصل من فصوله الخمسة والعشرين وحدة أدبية بذاتها يمتزج فيه الشعر بالنثر والسرد بالوعظ، والظاهر بالباطن، في لغة متميزة خبيرة بالمعجم العربي مستفيدة من مرونة العربية في الاشتقاق في اصطناع سجع ممتع هو من التقاليد الأصلية في العربية، كما أنه يختط المسار القصصي للأمثولة ويصطنع شكل المقامة وأسلوبها دون أن تخلو فصوله من المعارف الدينية والكونية.
