يعتقد الكثير من الأكراد أنّ تاريخهم بجانبيه القومي والحضاري لم ينل حقّه من الدراسة والبحث العميقين، وأنّ المؤرخين الكرد يتحملون المسؤولية الأولى في هذا الشأن، حينما انصرفوا إلى الكتابة بلغات الشعوب الأخرى وتسخير إمكانياتهم الإبداعية في القضايا التي تخص آدابها ولغاتها وثقافاتها دون أن يلتفتوا إلى لغتهم وثقافتهم القومية حتى كجزء من ثقافة شعوب المنطقة ناهيك عن مسألة تناولها في أبحاث ودراسات مستقلة، وهذا ما أدّى باللغة الكردية إلى البقاء في حالة من السبات وعدم التطور وبالتاريخ الكردي إلى بقاءه كائناً مجهولاً أو على الأقل إلى بقاء الحلقات الأكثر حساسية وأهمية فيه ناقصة، كما يشوب بعضها الآخر الكثير من الغموض والالتباس.
هذا الكتاب الموسوعي عن مشاهير الكرد وكردستان في العهد الإسلامي هو نموذج عن الدور الذي اضطلع به أبناء الشعب الكردي منذ القديم في صياغة تاريخ وحضارة المنطقة، وهو أيضاً إسهام آخر أضافه العلامة المرحوم محمد أمين زكي بك إلى مشروعه الثقافي التاريخي الذي عبّر عنه من خلاله عن إحساسه العميق والتزامه كمثقف ومؤرخ تجاه إبراز الانتماء الأصيل والمساهمة النشطة للشعب الكردي في صنع ثقافة وتاريخ هذه المنطقة.
