منذ عتبة الكتاب الأول "رصاصة فارغة في قبر مزدحم" لا يمكن أن نفصل بين وفائي ليلاً / الشاعر وبين وفائي / الناقد والمنظر لما اصبح يعرف بأدب الثورة في الإبداع العربي الحديث، فالشاعر وفائي ليلا يؤسس لمستوى من الإبداع والمغامرة الأدبية التي يمكن أن تسهم في صياغة حساسية فنية جديدة لمفهوم الفن الشعري المعاصر ودوره في حياة المتلقي.
وحيث أنه لم يعد هناك وقت لا للنوستالجيا ولا للعودة، لم يتبقَ للشعر إلا الذكرى، والإنزياح من عالم الكون الأرضي إلى عالم الكون الإنساني، إلى العالم الشعوري والكون النفسي، وكأنه يبحث عبره عن طوق نجاة، وكل ذلك يأتي في النص بصور محمّلة بالدلالات، مكتظة بالسواد، ومأساوية المفارقة على وطن بات يوزع قتلاه ولاجئيه ويتكاثر موتاً لا ولادة.
في القصيدة المعنونة "نتكاثر موتاً" يقول الشاعر:
"إنهم يقتلوننا يا أبي / يجرون جثثنا على شوارع عريهم / يقصفوننا بالصوت / ليطفئوا ألواننا الصاخبة / حبالنا التي تتأرجح بدمع الإغنيات / إنهم يحاصرون نوافذنا / ويطلقون غاز النوم / على أعمارنا / فنصحوا / إنهم يطبقون أجفان قلوبنا / إننا نتكاثر موتاً يا أبي / تحت جُنح مدن ترتج / تنجب أولاداً يبتسمون في نومهم الأخير / ويشهدون الله / أن يطمئن مجده على الأرض".
يضم الكتاب ثمانين قصيدة نثرية نذكر من العناوين: "في البدء" ، "ردهات واسعة" ، "روتين" ، "إخراج قيد" ، "حديث جانبي" ، "تانغو" ، "محاولة" ، "خمس طلقات" ، "هنا سورية" ، "رسالة إلى صديقي القاتل" ، (...) وقصائد أخرى.
