يدرس هذا الكتاب الحضارة العربية في مرحلة من مراحلها التكوينية الهامة، بعد أن ظهرت الديانة الإسلامية كعامل دافع للجماعة العربية في التطور الحضاري بما تقوم عليه فلسفتها من نظرة ذاتية إلى الإنسان وعلاقته بالكون والوجود، وبعد أن اكتملت لهذه الجماعة عناصر التكوين، فانطلقت خارج إطارها الجغرافي تنشر فلسفتها وتتابع مسيرتها ضمن قواعد التفاعل الحتمية، واثقة من متانة خصوصيتها.
فيدرس في البداية خصوصية الفترة الجاهلية فيتحدث عن السمات العامة للمجتمع الجاهل، وأشكال السلطة السائدة فيه، إلى جانب هذا يتحدث عن الظاهرة الدينية ومدى ارتباطها بالواقع العقلي، كما ويتطرق للأعراف والتقاليد التي كانت سائدة في تلك الفترة محدداً مدى ارتباطها بالفرز الاجتماعي.
من ثم وفي مرحلة لاحقة يبدأ بالحديث عن المجتمع الإسلامي، فيطرق لمسألة الدعوة الإسلامية، ولموضوع العمل السياسي في الإسلام، حكم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ونشأة مؤسسة الخلافة وتطورها، تأسيس الجيش الإسلامي، حركة الانتشار العربي الإسلامي، وخطوطها الكبرى، حركة الفتح الإسلامي، الأصول الاجتماعية الإسلامية وانعكاساتها التطبيقية، المفاهيم الاقتصادية والحركة العمرانية: (بيت مال المسلمين ودوره الاقتصادي، نظام الإقطاع والمزارعة، النقود المستعملة، والحركة التجارية، التوجيهات الإصلاحية في الاقتصاد، إنشاء المدن وتخطيطها)، وأخيراً يتحدث عن التحول الثقافي والفكر السائد في المجتمع الإسلامي، (الإسلام يحرك العقل العربي، القرآن الكريم محور الحياة الثقافية، المناقشات بين المسلمين وأتباع الديانات الأخرى، بذور العلوم الإسلامية وحركة التشريع).
