الإمام علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام(ت 40 هـ) من أبرز أعلام التاريخ الإسلامي، كلّفه الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم بالكثير من جلائل المهمات المتعلقة بروح الدعوة، فأثبت جدارته وصديق إيمانه، وسعة اطلاعه، كما عوّل الخلفاء الثلاثة الأول على الأخذ بمشورته في الكثير من القضايا السياسية، واعتمدوا على فتاواه الفقهية، بالإضافة إلى توليه الخلافة لفترة دامت خمس سنوات (35- 40 ه/ 656-661 م) كان خلالها سيفاً مسلّطاً على الفتنة الكبرى التي أودت بحياة الخليفة الثالث، ومن ثم قسمت المسلمين إلى فرق متناحرة، فكانت حياته ضحية لذلك التناحر ، وهو إلى جانب كل ذلك منبع البطولات الأسطورية، والمثال المحتذى في الفصاحة والبلاغة.
ولقد تناولت كثير من الدراسات شخصه بالبحث والدراسة، إلا أنها لم تتمكن من الإلمام بكل جوانبه، ولا سيما الجوانب الفكرية التي تضمنها كتاب (نهج البلاغة) الجامع لما أُثر عنه من خطب ورسائل وعهود وحكم، وذلك ما حدى بالمؤلف إلى إختيار (فكر علي عليه السلام كما يبدو من خلال نهج البلاغة) موضوعاً لدراستي.
وتتركب رسالتنا من خمسة أبواب: اختص الباب الأول بدراسة ما دار حول نصوص نهج البلاغة من جدل في مدى صحة نسبتها لعلي عليه السلام.
وعرض الباب الثاني لدراسة الفكر السياسي في نهج البلاغة.
أمّا الباب الثالث من الدراسة، فقد خصصناه لفكر علي عليه السلام الإجتماعي.
وفي الباب الرابع تناولنا بالدراسة والتحليل الجانب الكلامي وما احتوى عليه نهج البلاغة من تأملات كونية.
أما الباب الخامس فقد خصصناه لدراسة الأساليب التعبيرية في نهج البلاغة.
