يستعرض هذا المؤلَّف أوجه تفاعل العقل اللاهوتي مع المسائل المطروحة في العالم المسيحي والوافدة من خارجه؛ وبالمثل كيفية تلقّيه مختلف القراءات النقدية للنصّ المقدّس. متضمّنا مقالتين ضافيتين، تعالج كل منهما، وفق منهج مغاير، مصائر هذا الدين. تتناول الأولى القضايا من منظور فكري، مبرزة الأسئلة التي تستوقف العقل اللاهوتي؛ في حين تعالج الثانية مختلف القراءات النقدية للعهد الجديد، مبرزة التطورات الحاصلة. إذ تاريخ هذا السفر المقدّس حافل بالمراجعات التي فتحت آفاقا رحبة، وصاغت مقاربات متنوعة ساهمت في بلورة رؤى مستجدّة عن المسيحية. فالحداثة الجامحة ما تركت موضعا إلا وداهمته بأسئلتها، حتى أن المراجعات الفكرية لم تدّخر أسّا من أسس هذا الدين بعيدا عن سؤال المعقولية، وبالمثل، لم تُبق التحوّلات الاجتماعية مسلكا من مسالك "العقيدة الاجتماعية" للكنيسة، في منأى عن المراجعة والملاءمة.
مؤلّفو هذا الكتيّب هم من أعلام الفكر اللاهوتي الراهن، وبالتالي، يعكس مقولهم صدى الجدل الذي يؤرق رجالات الكنيسة، ذلك أن المسيحية الحالية تقف من ناحية، في مهبّ تحدّيات جمّة تربك علاقة المركز بالأطراف، ومن ناحية أخرى أمام مراجعات تمس بنية النص، أي إشكالية المأزق الفكري وما تصحبه من قضايا مصيرية، وإشكالية التحدي النقدي وما يفرضه من تعاطي مع النص القدسي.
