لقد اتخذنا "التفكير اللساني في رسائل إخوان الصفا" عنوانًا للبحث، حيث يشير مصطلح "التفكير" إلى أن آراء إخوان الصفا اللغوية لم تكن دائمًا حصيلة بحث ومدارسة بدر ما كانت مظهرًا من مظاهر تجليات التفكير الديني لديهم.
وقد تضمن البحث مقدمة وثلاثة فصول هي، الفصل الأول: تعرضنا من خلاله إلى الظروف العامة التي مهدت لظهور الجماعة سياسيًا واجتماعيًا وعلميًا مع محاولة الكشف عن الأسباب الحقيقية لظهور الجماعة، ومعرفة المؤسس الأول لها، والعلة في التسمية، ثم تطرقنا إلى البحث في نزعتهم، وأهدافهم، ونسبة الرسائل إليهم، وسريتهم، ونظام جماعتهم، ومصادر علومهم، وموقف الآخرين منهم، والجوانب الإيجابية في فلسفتهم، والمناحي العامة لتفكيرهم في شتى المجالات، ومنهجهم التأليفي، وطريقة عرضهم، وأقسام رسائلهم.
الفصل الثاني: عنوناه بـ"اللغة كائنًا" أعني أن كل كائن لما فيه اللغة لا بد من معرفة حقيقته بالنظر في وجوده وتكونه، أو خلقه وبداية نشأته، ووظيفته وتأثيره في غيره وتأثيره، وعناصره وطبيعته وأشكاله وتغيره.
الفصل الثالث: عنوناه بـ "اللغة عناصر منتظمة". في هذا الفصل حاولنا النظر في اللغة كأجزاء تشكل كلًا واحدًا. وقد تعرضنا فيه إلى ثلاثية مادة اللغة من صوت وكلمة وجملة، ثم عرجنا إلى النظر في المثلث اللغوي، وثنائية الكلام لفظًا ومعنى، وإلى تطون هذا الأخير/ لنصل إلى مستويات التعبير اللغوي الرسائل اللغوية من حيث طبيعتها ومضمونها. وانتهى العرض بخاتمة لخصت الجديد من الأفكار اللغوية التي تبناها إخوان الصفا وتبع ذلك ملحق شمل المعجم اللغوي لإخوان الصفا.
