يبين هذا الكتاب إسهامات العلماء العرب والمسلمين من أصوليّين (علماء أصول الفقه) وبلاغيّين ونحويّين ومناطقة في تأسيس المقترب الاستدلاليّ للّغة ولا سيّما ظاهرة التّلويح أو التّعريض التي وضع الفيلسوف الأمريكي (غرايس). Conversational implicature نظريته في التّلويح الحواريّ لتفسيرها. ويثبت أيضاً أن علماء العرب كانوا على علم بجَوهر المفاهيم الأساسيّة التي تناولَها(غرايس) ومن تبعه من اللّغويّين مثل (هورن) و(لفنسن) و(باخ) و(سبيربر وولسن) و(ريكاناتي ) ، وذلك عبر مصطلحات أُصوليّة مثل دَلالة (المنطوق) و(المفهوم) و(المنطوق غير الصّريح) و(التّعريض) وغيرها من المصطلحات التي لا تختلف كثيراً المعاصرة.pragmatics عن مصطلحات الفعليّات والاكتشاف الأهّم هو أن علماء العرب كانوا واعين لظّاهرة التَّدخُّل الفعليّاتي في (الماقيل) أو علم الدَّلالة.
وقد جاء الكتاب ضمن سلسلة "لغويات" التي تُعنى بالدراسات اللغوية: قديمها وحديثها، نظريّها وتطبيقيّها؛ انطلاقاً من أن اللُّغة هوية الأمة ورمز حضارتها، وعنوان أصالتها، ومثال كرامتها.. إنها تُعنى بالتراث اللغوي تحقيقاً ودراسة، وغربلة بذور الموت من بذور الحياة فيه، عنايتها بما جدَّ في الحقل اللغوي من بحوث ودراسات. وبقدر ما تحفل بالجانب النظري في علوم اللغة تحفل بالجانب التطبيقي ومنهجه المتعدّدة؛ أملاً في أن تواكب اللغة الحياة، باعتبارها كائناً حيًّاً ينمو ويتطَّور.
