هذا الكتاب عن تاريخ تطور الري في مصر "1882-1914" هو في الأصل رسالة علمية جامعية، وينقسم إلى ستة فصول: يتناول الفصل الأول، جهود محمد على الارتقاء بالري في مصر. أما الفصل الثاني: فيتناول سياسة بريطانيا إزاء مياه النيل بعد احتلالها لمصر. والفصل الثالث: يتناول القناطر والخزانات ودورها في تنظيم الري في مصر. أما الفصل الرابع: فيتناول تطور نظم الري ويتعرض لنظام ري الحياض، والري بالترع والرياحات. ويتعرض الفصل الخامس: إلى آلات الري وتطورها كما يتعرض أيضاً لنظام السخرة. أما الفصل السادس والأخير: فيتحدث عن أثر تطور الري ومشروعاته في الحياة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في مصر.
