هذا الكتاب تناول فيه الدكتور محمود عكاشة المذكر والمؤنث فى العربية بين اللفظ والمعنى، لما فيه من قضايا عديدة تحتاج بحثاً، ولسد باب الطعن الذى يلج منه الطاعنون فى العربية، وهم يعمون على العامة ببعض وجوه اللفظ التى يخالف ظاهرها القياس، أو وجوه اللفظ المختلفة فى معنى واحد، وما سمع فيه التذكير والتأنيث، وقد اتخذ من التذكير والتأنيث تموذجاً لتبيين علاقة اللفظ بالمعنى وأثر المعنى فى اختلاف اللفظ، وهذا من خصائص العربية فى وضع الألفاظ للدلالة على المعانى، والتفريق بين النوعين بتخصيص اللفظ بنوع أو بزيادة فى اللفظ أو بوصف أو ضمير أو إشارة، وتأمل من الله تعالى أن يوفقنا فى تحقيق القول فى المسائل والقضايا التى طرحت فى التذكير والتأنيث.
