إني لما صنَّفْتُ كتابي في "مؤتلف أسماء المحدّثين ومختلفها" نظرتُ، فإذا من يُنسَب منهم إلى قبيلة أو بلدة او صَنْعَة قد يقع فيه من التصحيف والتحريف مثل ما يقع في الأسماء والكنى التي حواها كتاب "المؤتلف والمختلف" الذي تقدّم تصنيفي إيّاه قبل هذا الكتاب وغيره، (من مصنّفاتي).
لذلك، ألَّفْتُ كتاباً في المنسوب منهم إلى قبيلةٍ، أو بلدة، أو صنعة، يَشتبه إنتسابُهُ في الخطّ، ويفترق في اللّفظ والمعنى على من ليس له بذلك علم، ولا له به دُرْبَة.
