الخط لسان اليد، وبهجة الضمير، وسفير العقول، ووعى الفكر، وسلاح المعرفة، وأنس الإخوان عند الفرقة، ومحادثتهم على بعد المسافة، ومستودع السر، وديوان الأمر. وقد قيل: الخط أفضل من اللفظ، لأن اللفظ يفهم الحاضر فقط، والخط يفهم الحاضر والغائب، ونظراً لأهمية الكتابة الخطية فقد استعان دكتورنا الفاضل حمدى بخيت عمران بالله تعالى فى كتابة هذا، والذى جاء فى أربعة فصول بعد المقدمة، وقد جعلها للحديث عن الجزيرة العربية وتاريخها القديم، حيث تناول صفة الجزيرة العربية، والساميين وأنواع الأمم السامية المختلفة ولغاتهم وكتابتهم، والموطن الأصلى لهم.
كما تعرض للكتابة فى العصر الجاهلى، تحدث فيه عن الآطوار التى مرت فيها الكتابة، وأصل الكتابة العربية والنظريات التى تحدثت عن أصل الكتابة العربية والرأى الراجح فى ذلك، والنقوش العربية قبل الإسلام، ثم تناول الكتابة العربية فى العصر الإسلامى، وتحدث فيه عن جمع القرآن ورسمه، وذكر بعضاً من الحكم والأسرار الخاصة بالرسم العثمانى، والشكل والإعجام، وختم الحديث بالخطوط العربية وأنواعها، تحدث فيه عن الخطوط التى كانت مستعملة وما زالت حتى الوقت الحاضر، وهى: خط الثلث، وخط النسخ، وخط الرقعة، والخط الفارسى، والخط الديوانى، والخط الكوفى، والخط المغربى.
