تحت عنوان "بيوت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وحُجُراتُها .. وصفة معيشته فيها" يسعى الباحث محمد بن فارس الجميل إلى إيضاح الفرق بين الحجرات والبيوت، وإزالة اللَّبس الحاصل لدى بعض الدارسين في السيرة النبوية حول هذا الموضوع، مع تقديم تعريف واضح لكل من البيت والحجرة وبيان وظيفة كل منهما، ومدى ارتباط كل منهما بالآخر، وسيكون بيت السيدة عائشة رضي الله عنها وحُجْرتها هما الأنموذج الذي تدور عليه الدراسة، حيث أن بيت عائشة رضي الله عنها هو البيت الذي عاش فيه الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وهما اللذان ترتكز عليهما الدراسة، يلقي المؤلف الضوء على مرافق ذلك البيت وما يحويه من أثاث ومتاع، مضافاً إليها معيشة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وأهل بيته، والغرض من ذلك تقديم صورة تقريبية لما كانت عليه بيوت رسول الله من الناحية المادية والمعاشية والأخلاقية.
يقول المؤلف في خاتمة دراسته: " ... وبسبب الخلط في مفهوم البيت والحجرة، فقد ظن بعض ممن ليس لهم إلمام واسع بالسيرة النبوية، أن البيت والحجرة بمعنى واحد، لذلك وحسب هذا المفهوم فإن قبر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وقبري صاحبيه تقع في الحجرة أي: حجرة عائشة! وهذا الفهم مغاير للحقيقة، إذ إن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم توفي ودفن في بيته أي: بيت عائشة، حيث رُفع فراشه الذي توفي عليه وحُفر قبره في مكان الفراش ودُفن في البيت، ثم دُفن إلى جواره كل من صاحبيه أبي بكر الصديق وعمر بن الخطاب. لذلك فإن من يطلق عليه الآن "الحجرة الشريفة" هو في الواقع البيت الذي توفي فيه الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وليس الحجرة، وأن التسمية بالحُجرة هي تسمية مجازية وليست حقيقية ...".
تتألف الدراسة من تمهيد ومقدمة وثلاثة عناوين رئيسية هي: 1- بيوت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، وحُجُراتُها. 2- البيت والحُجرة .. بيت عائشة "أنموذجاً"، ومرافق بيت عائشة. 3- أثاث بيوت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ومتاعها، ومعاش النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأزواجه. وأخيراً (خاتمة) وملاحق تضم رسوم توضيحية للحجرات الشريفة يوضح موقعها من المسجد، ومخطط تقريبي لمواقع بيوت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وحُجراتها من بعض البيوت والمرافق، وشكل القبور الثلاثة للنبي وأصحابه، بالإضافة إلى رسوم لأشكال تخيلية لبعض الآنية والأوعية المستخدمة في بيوت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم.
