تُعد الأوقاف من أهم الموارد الاقتصادية للأمة الإسلامية، وبها قامت ـ ولا تزال ـ كثيرٌ من صروح العلم والرعاية بشتى صورها، وقد دوّن الفقهاء أحكام تلك الأوقاف بتفصيل كبير، وكتبوا في ذلك المؤلفات المفرَدة، تنبيهاً منهم إلى أهمية تلك الأحكام وخطورة الجهل بها، لما قد يؤدّي إليه من تضييع لتلك المقدَّرات أو خروج بها عن أهدافها التي لأجلها وُقِفتْ.
ويأتي هذا الكتاب الوجيز ليعرِّف بأهم الأحكام المتعلقة بالأوقاف، سواءٌ كانت تلك الأوقاف مساجدَ أو دورَ علم أو خدماتٍ عامة. ثم يُسلّط الضوء على دور تحفيظ القرآن الكريم والتعليم الشرعيّ على وجه الخصوص، وينبّه على كثير من المخالفات الخطيرة التي قد تقع بسبب الجهل بتلك الأحكام الشرعية. ويتناول أيضاً جانباً لا يقل خطورةً عمّا سبق، هو الجانب التربوي، موضّحاً ـ من واقع تجربته الطويلة ـ الآدابَ والأحكامَ اللازمة للقائمين على تلك الأوقاف من نظّار ومعلِّمين ومحفّظين وغيرهم، كي تبقى للوقف رسالته السامية التي وُضع لأجلها.
