تعتبر مشكلة التوحد هي بالفعل مشكلة محيرة، لأن الطفل التوحدي لا يبدو من مظهره الخارجي أنه يعاني من أي قصور، فهو يبدو طبيعياً تماماً وبالتالي يصعب التعرف عليه ويشعر العاديين من يتعامل مع أطفال التوحد بالحيرة الشديدة، وذلك نتيجة أختلافهم الشديد عن غيرهم من الأطفال العاديين، فالطفل التوحدي يبدو مثل الحاضر الغائب، فهو حاضر جسدياً ولكنه غائب في عالمه الخاص، وتجد نظراته تنفذ من خلال الآخرين ولكنها لا تتوقف عليهم ولا يبدو عليه أنه يهتم أو يشعر بمن حوله.
ولتوضيح ذلك المفهوم حول التوحد فإن الكتاب الحالي يضم بين طياته عدة فصول.... ويتناول الفصل الأول تعريف التوحد وأسبابه وتشخيصه وعلاجه ويتناول الفصل الثاني أنواع التوحد والفصل الثالث التوحد واضطرابات التواصل اللغوي والفصل الرابع التوحد والتواصل الإجتماعي والفصل الخامس برامج تدريبية لتنمية القدرات العامة.
