إن فشل الطفل في التواصل مع الآخرين يؤدي إلى الوقوع في العديد من المشكلات النفسية والسلوكية نتيجة لما يعانيه من اضطرابات في النطق، ومنها: الخجل، الإحباط. والانطواء، وتصرفات غير سوية، كالسلوك العدواني تجاه الآخرين، أو النشاط الزائد، وذلك لما يتعرض له من سخرية واستهزاء من الأطفال الآخرين.
ومن هنا فإن إعاقة عملية التواصل، وما يترتب عليها من مشكلات اجتماعية ونفسية تعتبر أحد المؤشرات الدالة على حاجة الطفل لعلاج اضطرابات النطق لديه. وبناء على ما سبق كان إحساسنا بالمشاكل التي توقع الآباء في حيرة والمختصين في مجال الإعاقة الكلامية كان دافعًا لنا لإخراج هذا الكتاب في مجال عيوب النطق والكلام متضمنًا الحديث عن مهام اختصاصي النطق ومهامه الأساسية في التشخيص والتقييم والعلاج ثم الحديث عن عيوب النطق الشائعة لدى الأطفال وكيفية علاجها مع شرح مبسط عن طرق العلاج ثم في الفصل الثالث الحديث عن الجهاز الصوتي وفي الفصل الرابع تقييم أعضاء النطق والفصل الخامس بيان المخارج والتدريب على إخراج الحروف ومختتمًا بالقاموس اللغوي لعيوب النطق واللغة.
